A prayer for hope when the situation in front of you looks the same as it did months ago. Rooted in Romans 15:13 and the long practice of waiting on God.
Father, I come to You with a situation that has not moved. I have prayed about it before, and I am praying about it again. The circumstances look the same today as they did months ago. You see this. You know exactly how long I have carried it. I am asking You to meet me here, in the middle of the waiting, before anything changes.
Your Word calls You the God of hope. Paul asked You to fill Your people with all joy and peace in believing, so that they would abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. I am asking for that filling now. I cannot manufacture hope by trying harder. It has to come from You, and I am holding out empty hands to receive it.
Teach me the difference between optimism and hope. Optimism guesses that circumstances will improve, and hope rests on Your character even when they do not. I confess that my eyes have been fixed on the circumstances, and they have grown tired there. Lift my eyes to Your face. Anchor my hope in Your goodness and Your faithfulness rather than in a forecast.
You are good to those who wait for You, to the soul who seeks You. Lord, I do not wait well. I grow weary, and I begin to believe that silence means absence. Remind me that You are working in ways I cannot see. Sustain me through one more day of waiting, and then through the day after that. Renew my strength as You promised.
Guard me against despair. When my soul is downcast, teach it to speak to itself the way the psalmist did, saying that I will yet praise You. Hold that sentence inside me on the days I cannot hold it myself. Bring Your people around me, so that I am not left to wait alone.
I hold fast to the confession of my hope, because You who promised are faithful. Whatever You choose to do with this situation, You will not abandon me inside it. Fill me with all joy and peace in believing, and let me abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Tell God plainly what the situation is and how long you have waited. Honesty about an unchanged circumstance is not a failure of faith. The psalms open this way again and again.
Read the verse slowly, then ask God for exactly what it describes. Hope in this verse is something God fills you with, not something you work up. Ask Him to do the filling.
Thank God for who He is, apart from what happens next. Recall specific ways He has been faithful to you before. Hope grows when it rests on God himself rather than on what may happen next.
Come back tomorrow and pray this again. Scripture ties hope to waiting, and waiting is something you practice rather than endure. There is no deadline on this prayer, and there is no stop date on ours.
